Art often faces prohibitions because of the tension between artistic expression and society's moral standards, especially in the context of the nude body. The laws' definition of pornography illustrates how emotion-laden criteria can limit artistic interpretations of the body. Art history has rarely recorded the female nude in a role other than that of the object itself, emphasizing that the female body has often been perceived solely as an object to be observed and admired. In this context, the “inferior” female nude becomes an object for a group of men, while the ability to actively observe and capture male or other female nudes remains beyond her rights. While traditional canons remained unchanged until the mid-twentieth century, contemporary movements such as #FreeTheNipple question old taboos and demand freedom of expression.
